Announcing The Passing
Of Nancy Vunovich
Announcement Letter

It
is with profound regret and the utmost sorrow that this letter is to
inform you that Dr. Nancy Vunovich passed away on Thursday, May 4 after
her lengthy and heroic bout with lung cancer.
Nancy
died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Nashville, Tennessee, with
her daughters, Alexandra and Holly, at her side.
It
was Nancy's wish that remembrances on her behalf be made in the form of
donations to Gilda's Club of Nashville, Tennessee.
Gilda's Club, named in honor of the late comedian Gilda Radner,
is a non-profit organization
which
relies on individual donations to provide an environment where people
with cancer and their families and friends can band together to build an
active social and emotional support system as a supplement to medical
care.
Donations
in Nancy's name may also be made to the Creede Repertory Theatre in
Creede, Colorado where Nancy loved working since its inception.
A director
to the end, Nancy requested that no funeral be held for her.
Instead, she asked that her family and friends gather together
for a
party -- a joyous celebration of her life and the lives of the people
she touched.
During the early part of July, Xan and Holly hosted a party
celebrating Nancy's life and legacy at their cabin in Creede.

Prior
to Nancy's death, she received a number of vastly moving,
personal messages from her family, friends, colleagues and
former students, all of which commented in one way or another on
what a remarkable teacher she was.
Nancy's wicked wit and mischievous smile, her
overwhelming compassion and generosity forever enriched the
lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her.
She was a fiercely committed teacher instructing us even
now. If her battle
with cancer taught her anything, she said, "it's that life
is for living."
Recently,
in a box of old photographs, Nancy's family discovered a
handwritten note on which she had written:
"There
have been no dragons in my life.
Only small spiders and stepping in gum.
I could have coped with the dragons."
Rest
in peace, Nancy. Thank
you for everything. We
love you and miss you
already.
